Project overview

This project focused on developing digital signage for Durham College, inspired by local news channel displays like CP24. The digital signs, showcased on flat-screen TVs across campus, provide essential daily information, including time, date, weather, menus, and advertisements. Designed to assist students, staff, and visitors, these signs enhance campus communication and navigation. With a user-friendly and visually engaging interface, the system ensures accessibility for individuals from diverse backgrounds while improving the overall campus experience.

Role

As a designer for this project, I was responsible for ensuring the effectiveness of the digital signage system. I organized content logically, created prototypes, and designed visually appealing interfaces that enhanced user experience. I designed and implemented video and graphic elements for the digital signage system, ensuring clear and engaging content.

Process

Design Concept

The digital signage system consists of six main parts: main commercial videos, small advertisements, a weather and date pane, a ticker tape for real-time updates, and a news pane. These components work together to deliver essential information and engaging content in a clear and organized layout. Building these components required advanced coding with HTML, CSS, GSAP, and JavaScript, as well as backend integration. Working with databases added an extra layer of complexity but also allowed me to enhance my technical abilities and broaden my development skill set.
